The Tiv Youth Council Worldwide and the Arewa Youth Assembly have publicly praised President Bola Tinubu for authorizing the formation of the Nigerian Army’s 5 Division, headquartered in Makurdi, Benue State. During a joint demonstration in Makurdi, representatives from both organizations highlighted that this addition is a vital step toward stabilizing the North Central region.
Emmanuel Katseen, speaking for the Tiv Youth Council, noted that the state has struggled for years with banditry, kidnappings, and communal violence. He stated that these issues have severely impacted agricultural productivity and displaced many families. By establishing this new command, the administration is addressing long-standing security gaps, which the council believes will foster peace and encourage residents to resume farming activities.
The Arewa Youth Assembly’s Publicity Secretary, Aliyu Muhammad, referred to the move as a landmark achievement that showcases the government’s resolve to address national security concerns. He emphasized that transitioning Benue from a brigade host to a full division headquarters enhances the state’s strategic role. Muhammad also urged the federal government to ensure the division is well-funded and equipped with modern technology to effectively counter threats in Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi states.
Both youth leaders expressed their commitment to supporting the military through intelligence sharing and local cooperation. They encouraged community and traditional leaders to work alongside security forces to maintain order, while expressing optimism that the division will provide local youth with new opportunities for recruitment and socio-economic growth.
