Laolu Akande, the former spokesperson for ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has stated that the Osun State gubernatorial election will serve as a key indicator for the 2027 general elections. During his program on Channels Television, Akande argued that this contest acts as a litmus test for President Bola Tinubu’s recent assertion that all tactics are acceptable in the political arena.
President Tinubu previously suggested to Catholic Bishops that politics lacks conventional rules, claiming that those who attempt to challenge his position will find it difficult. Akande pointed to recent events in Osun, such as reported violence, threats, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s move to block state accounts—which the President later intervened to stop—as problematic instances that contradict the idea of fair play. According to Akande, international observers, civil groups, and political rivals are monitoring the situation to see if the President’s conduct aligns with his rhetoric.
