Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has officially asked the club’s board to pursue more signings prior to the conclusion of the summer transfer window. Carrick took over as interim manager following the exit of Ruben Amorim after a difficult opening to the 2025-26 campaign. By stabilizing the squad, the former midfielder helped secure a UEFA Champions League qualification, which resulted in his appointment as the permanent manager.
Looking ahead, Carrick emphasized that the team must be strengthened to remain competitive across all tournaments. Speaking to BBC Sport, he noted the necessity of pushing boundaries to restore the club’s winning culture, despite acknowledging the financial constraints involved. He stressed that the team must maximize its current potential while seeking improvements.
United has already added depth to the midfield by signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, replacements for the departing Casemiro. The club also recruited Karl Darlow to provide goalkeeping cover following the loan departure of Altay Bayindir to Celta Vigo. Current transfer efforts are reportedly focused on Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall, alongside interest in Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, though discussions for the latter have stalled.
