Police Commissioners from Kogi and Edo states have ramped up joint security efforts along their shared border to address rising threats of kidnapping and banditry. On August 13, 2026, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi of Kogi and CP Patrick Daaor of Edo led a patrol at Aguda Village near the Okene-Auchi Expressway. This effort marked the seventh day of coordinated clearance operations aimed at evaluating operational readiness and securing vulnerable transit routes.
ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, noted that the commissioners inspected forest hideouts to refine intelligence sharing and emergency response tactics. This collaborative strategy recently led to the successful rescue of nine individuals kidnapped on August 11 near the Mameramo-Adomu Road. The rescue involved a multi-agency task force, including the military, the Department of State Services, civil defense personnel, and local vigilante groups.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families. During their visit, the commissioners met with local residents to hear their security grievances. Emphasizing the community policing mandate of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the officials promised consistent action to clear criminal safe havens. Both state commands pledged to maintain this partnership to protect travelers and residents along the Okene-Auchi corridor.
