Nigeria and South Africa square off in 2027 Women’s World Cup qualifier

Nigeria and South Africa face each other on Thursday night in a play-off for a place in the 2027 Women’s World Cup after both were knocked out of the 2026 WAFCON.

On Thursday evening, the Nigerian and South African women’s national teams meet for a crucial 2027 Women’s World Cup play-off match.

This contest serves as a redemption opportunity for both squads following their quarter-final exits during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. South Africa’s Banyana Banyana were defeated 2–1 by tournament hosts Morocco, while Nigeria’s Super Falcons narrowly lost 1–0 to Cameroon.

The match begins at 9pm West African time. The victor earns a spot in a six-team preliminary stage of the Inter-Confederation play-offs. Ultimately, only two teams from that stage will advance to the final play-off round, where they will join four other nations that earned direct entry.

Live coverage of the Super Falcons against the South African side will be provided by DAILY POST.
