Adewole Adebayo, who served as the 2027 presidential nominee for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), recently asserted that security agencies have become compromised by political interests surrounding the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
Speaking during a broadcast appearance on the Arise Television Morning Show this past Thursday, Adebayo highlighted his worries regarding the state of Nigerian electoral processes. He specifically cited reports of violence in Osun State as a major red flag for the country’s democratic health.
Adebayo warned that the events unfolding in Osun could set a dangerous precedent for the 2027 general elections. He described a climate of injustice and highlighted the overt influence of political forces on law enforcement. The SDP official noted that despite his party only receiving official recognition for its governorship candidate a day prior, the party had already participated fully in campaigns and debates.
