A first-year student at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rumuolumeni, Rivers State, was wounded by gunfire during an incident on campus this Wednesday. This event follows a clash between rival cult factions that took place just two days prior.
Witnesses suggest the earlier violence on Monday involved members of the Vikings and the Ku Klux Klan. While the specifics of the Wednesday shooting remain under investigation, sources indicate the victim was hospitalized to undergo surgery for the removal of bullet pellets. Peers of the victim are reportedly organizing funds to assist with his medical expenses. It is currently unknown if the wounded student had any ties to campus gangs.
Police spokesperson Blessing Agabe acknowledged the existence of online footage depicting the incident and noted that authorities are gathering details from local officers. Following the security breach, university Registrar Dr. Chinonye Ajie issued a formal notice suspending all remaining Students’ Union Government Week events. Students have been instructed to return to regular classes on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Management has issued a stern warning that any behavior compromising campus safety or academic progress will face consequences.
