Adewale Egbedun, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, has been accused of assaulting Francis Eniade, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency. This incident occurred just two days before the scheduled gubernatorial election in the state.
A photograph circulating on social media platform X depicts Eniade covered in blood. Reports suggest that Eniade sustained injuries during the encounter, and several other individuals were also harmed. Witnesses claim that numerous vehicles were damaged during the altercation, with some social media users calling for public condemnation of the Speaker’s alleged conduct.
As of this reporting, the Osun State Police Command has not verified the claims. This follows recent tensions where Egbedun demanded the arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi and Eniade, citing concerns over inflammatory statements. Senator Fadahunsi recently visited the police headquarters to address allegations related to remarks about harming political supporters. Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the primary contender in the upcoming election, facing competition from the APC’s Bola Oyebamiji and the Social Democratic Party’s Dr. Francis Ajala.
