INEC Adds SDP Candidate Ajala to Osun Gubernatorial Ballot

INEC has added SDP candidate Dr. Francis Olugbenga Ajala to the Osun State governorship ballot following a court order, bringing the total number of participating parties to fifteen.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially updated the ballot for the Osun State gubernatorial race to include Dr. Francis Olugbenga Ajala and his running mate, Faseke Babajimi Oladipo, as the official representatives for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

This update follows a mandate from the Abuja Federal High Court on July 22, 2026, stemming from legal proceedings in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/344/2026. The court directed the electoral body to accept and publish the details of the SDP candidate.

Because of this change, the total count of participating political parties has risen to fifteen. INEC is currently reprinting both the ballot papers and result sheets for the August 15, 2026, election. According to National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the updated materials are scheduled to reach Osun State on August 13, 2026, for distribution across all local government areas. INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible electoral process.
