Yiaga Africa, an election monitoring group, has called on members of the media to inform Osun State residents about the latest voting technology being used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the upcoming governorship race. Executive Director Samson Itodo delivered this request during a recent workshop in Osogbo focused on managing election results.
Itodo highlighted that the 2026 Electoral Act introduced the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which enables the digital transmission and archiving of results directly from individual polling stations. He explained that this method, referred to as e-EC8A, involves presiding officers digitally submitting the data from the hard-copy EC8A forms into the BVAS device.
Because this procedure is new to voters in Osun, Itodo stressed the necessity of public awareness. He encouraged journalists to oversee presiding officers to confirm that digital entries match the physical record sheets. Furthermore, he reminded the public that proper accreditation via Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) is mandatory. Voters are also entitled to examine the BVAS units prior to the start of the process to ensure no prior data exists and should verify that presiding officers publicly display the official EC60E result forms as required by law. Finally, he noted that the public can independently verify outcomes through the INEC Election Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
