Arsenal renew pursuit of Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa

Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa and have also held preliminary talks regarding Tottenham’s Cristian Romero.

Arsenal are once again tracking Aston Villa center-back Ezri Konsa. The 28-year-old, who performed well for England during the World Cup, is currently on break and missing Villa’s Super Cup match against Paris St-Germain.

The Gunners previously attempted to sign Konsa earlier this summer but fell short of Aston Villa’s £60m valuation, as Arsenal’s initial bid stood near £30m. After a 48-game campaign last season that included a Europa League title, Konsa has become a priority for the Premier League champions following their acquisition of Bruno Guimaraes.

Arsenal executives acknowledge that they must increase their financial proposal to secure the defender, though it is unclear if Villa will accept anything below their current asking price. Meanwhile, Arsenal have also conducted preliminary discussions with Tottenham regarding club captain Cristian Romero. While Tottenham are expected to reject any approach from their north London rivals, Arsenal are actively exploring the possibility of an audacious move for the Argentine, who recovered from an April knee injury to play in the World Cup final.
