Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso announced that goalkeeper Robert Sanchez sustained an injury during a practice session prior to the team’s exhibition match against Tottenham Hotspur. Alonso shared the update with the media following Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Spurs this past Saturday.
Sanchez was notably missing from the lineup during the match held at Accor Stadium in Sydney. Addressing the status of his goalkeepers, Alonso explained that while Mike Penders is expected to join the squad in Hong Kong, Sanchez is dealing with a minor issue that kept him out of the current game. Alonso stated they are monitoring the situation daily and opted not to rush him back to avoid unnecessary risks. The club will evaluate his availability for the upcoming week.
Chelsea is scheduled to play their next friendly game against Juventus this Wednesday.
