Rangers manager Derek McInnes is actively pursuing a new striker following the long-term injury of Youssef Chermiti. The 22-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear during the recent loss to Hibernian, a development McInnes described as a significant setback for the squad. Chermiti is expected to undergo surgery shortly after consulting with a London-based specialist.
The club is also dealing with the absence of left-back Tuur Rommens, who is sidelined for up to eight weeks with a groin injury. McInnes admitted that the lack of defensive depth has left the team vulnerable, noting that they are effectively playing with fire in the backline. With no natural left-footed defenders currently available, the manager is prioritizing recruitment in that position alongside a search for new wingers.
Regarding transfer activity, the club is currently in discussions for several targets, including links to PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech. While McInnes emphasized that securing a traditional number nine is inherently challenging, he expressed relief that these injuries occurred while the transfer window remains open, providing an opportunity to adjust the squad before their upcoming Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia Bialystok.
