Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, the regional leader of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Plateau State’s Barkin Ladi area, has openly disputed recent remarks by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir. The cleric stated that Nigeria cannot be classified as a Muslim country.
Sheikh Jingir had previously claimed during a Kano State event that Nigeria is a Muslim nation, using this stance to justify his support for a Muslim-Muslim political leadership structure. Furthermore, he labeled Nigerian Christians as infidels, suggesting they could depart the country if they disapproved of this governance model.
In response, Rev. Dachomo warned that such inflammatory language risks fueling religious tension and division. He emphasized that leadership in Nigeria should be rooted in fairness, effective governance, and the safety of all citizens rather than religious demographics.
Dachomo reiterated that Nigeria remains a diverse, multi-religious society where both faiths have contributed to national growth. He called on religious figures to exercise caution in their public rhetoric to avoid marginalizing any community or implying that one religion holds superior rights to the nation.
