Sheikh Muhammad Sani Yahya Jingir, the National Chairman of Jama’atu Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jama’ah (JIBWIS), has explicitly stated he remains committed to advocating for Muslim-Muslim political tickets. He expressed confusion regarding critics who challenge his right to endorse candidates when others actively support those of their own faith.
Addressing the controversy surrounding his recent comments, Jingir claimed Muslims in Plateau State have endured significant hardship under Christian leadership. He cited local political disparities as evidence, claiming instances where voting numbers for councillors in Muslim-dominated areas were unfairly contrasted with lower returns for legislative seats in other districts.
The cleric clarified that his endorsement is not solely focused on Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, but rather on any candidate who aligns with his belief that the Muslim community has historically faced persecution and the targeted killing of its leaders. He pointed to historical events, including the assassination of the Sardauna and the criticism faced by the late President Musa Yar’Adua, as proof of a long-standing bias against Muslims.
Jingir maintained that his stance on Muslim-Muslim tickets predates the current election cycle. He emphasized that he continues to speak out because current candidates have embraced this path, asserting that his position remains a matter of personal opinion.
