Liverpool Supporters Demand Answers Regarding Potential Bezos Investment

The Spirit of Shankly supporters’ group is seeking urgent clarity from Liverpool ownership regarding reports that a high-profile consortium, including Jeff Bezos, is nearing a deal to acquire a significant minority stake in the club.

The Spirit of Shankly fan organization has emphasized that the welfare of the club and its community must remain the priority amid news that a consortium featuring Amazon creator Jeff Bezos is near a deal for a minority share in Liverpool. According to Sky News, the investment group is spearheaded by Amit Bhatia, son-in-law to steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, and includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Fenway Sports Group, the club’s current owners, acknowledged interest from this group back in July.

Reports suggest the consortium is nearing an agreement for approximately 33 percent of the club, with an official update potentially arriving this week. While Bezos—whose net worth exceeds $280 billion—has previously considered purchasing NFL franchises like the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, those deals did not materialize. Spirit of Shankly has reached out to club leadership for a formal meeting to discuss these developments, citing concerns about how such a change could affect the club’s governance and footballing direction based on precedents at other teams.

The club has recently undergone managerial shifts, replacing Arne Slot, who secured a Premier League title in the 2024/25 season, with current manager Andoni Iraola.
