The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched the 2026 Startup Awards, providing a prize pool of $65,000 for the top three winning businesses. This program, organized by the ECOWAS Commission’s Directorate of Private Sector and Industry alongside the Pan African Alliance of Small and Medium Industries (PAOSMI) and Investment Promotion Agencies of West African States (IPAWAS), aims to highlight innovative ventures in digital transformation and regional integration.
Building on the success of the 2021 inaugural event in Niamey, Niger, the 2026 edition in Abuja will gather 60 startups. Participants will engage in workshops, pitch sessions, and networking with investors and policymakers. In addition to cash awards, victors will gain access to mentorship, a six-month acceleration program, and technical equipment.
Eligible sectors include education tech, fintech, health tech, agricultural technology, green innovation, and tourism. Startups may be nominated by their home country or apply directly through the general public portal. The selection process involves a regional jury in Abuja, with winners chosen based on rigorous criteria. Interested entrepreneurs must submit their materials through the official ECOWAS portal by August 31, 2026.
