Former social media influencer Courtney Clenney has been handed a six-year prison term following her guilty plea to manslaughter. The charge relates to the 2022 death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, at their shared apartment in Miami. Clenney, 30, accepted a plea deal that concluded a high-profile case originally involving a second-degree murder charge.
Clenney will face five additional years of probation after completing her sentence. Because she has been incarcerated since August 2022, she will be credited for the time already served, leaving approximately two years remaining in prison. As part of her post-release requirements, she must complete substance abuse and mental health treatment. Furthermore, prosecutors have mandated that she cannot profit financially from this case.
Although Clenney initially claimed the stabbing was an act of self-defense during a volatile relationship, investigators highlighted a history of domestic disputes. Christian Obumseli’s family expressed that the plea agreement provides a sense of accountability for the loss they continue to endure. Obumseli’s mother shared that while the legal proceedings have reached a resolution, the impact of her son’s death remains a constant presence for their family.
