Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, stated on Tuesday that certain party leaders have begun treating the organization like a personal fiefdom to serve their own interests. During an appearance on the Channels Television program Sunrise Daily, George noted that these individuals are disregarding the established leadership structure set in place by the party’s original founders.
George emphasized that even high-ranking or wealthy donors must adhere to the party’s hierarchy. He recalled how the PDP functioned effectively when it held power, citing clearly defined roles for the National Working Committee, the National Executive Committee, and the Board of Trustees. He argued that the transition out of federal power created a vacuum, as the party lost the central authority typically provided by a sitting president.
The veteran politician observed that after the party lost its position in government, personal ambitions began to undermine organizational unity. He expressed concern that some members now bypass the National Chairman and the National Working Committee, ignoring meeting protocols and challenging the formal management of the party’s daily operations.
