Members of the Youth on Ground Progressive and Mentorship Initiative (YOG), a coalition within the All Progressives Congress (APC), have appealed to President Bola Tinubu and state governors for greater inclusion in governance. The group pledged to secure 10 million votes for the president’s potential 2027 reelection campaign.
Dr. Obioma Nwuba, the group’s national coordinator, stated that the initiative was created to move beyond the traditional exploitation of young people as temporary political assets. Instead, YOG aims to build a disciplined, structured platform where youth serve as genuine stakeholders in nation-building. Nwuba emphasized that the Renewed Hope Agenda must be felt at the local level, urging the federal government to partner with their organization as a primary delivery vehicle for grassroots development.
The group is proposing a shift from symbolic youth conferences to tangible engagement. They are asking state governors to integrate YOG members into existing job creation and agricultural programs. According to Nwuba, this integration is essential for fostering stability and economic growth, positioning the organization’s Agro-Tech and skills development projects as vital components of federal policy success.
Formed in August 2025, YOG focuses on four core areas: civic participation, policy advocacy, peacebuilding, and economic empowerment. Since its public introduction at a 2025 summit in Enugu, the group has implemented various initiatives, including agricultural training in Jalingo and Minna, as well as health programs in Abuja. Nwuba noted that with Nigeria’s large youth demographic, organized and mentored young people represent a significant force for democratic stabilization.
