Chief Onyekachi Onyekwere, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has advised the Igbo population to move away from ethnic-based and adversarial political tactics. Speaking in Lagos, he emphasized that adopting a strategic approach is essential for the region to gain significant influence within the federal government.
Onyekwere highlighted the candidacy of Eric Opia in Abia State, portraying him as a dynamic industrialist capable of implementing modern solutions. He noted that Opia has already demonstrated a commitment to regional growth through job creation and charitable endeavors, arguing that his track record makes him a superior alternative to the current administration of Governor Alex Otti.
To bolster this goal, Onyekwere is currently engaging with local stakeholders to build support for both Opia and President Bola Tinubu. He advocates for an “APC all the way” strategy, asserting that unifying under one party banner will better serve the interests of the Igbo people than engaging in contentious political disputes.
Furthermore, he identified Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as a key figure for the APC in the South-East. Onyekwere is actively organizing support for Uzodimma’s bid for the Senate, predicting that the governor possesses the leadership qualities necessary to eventually lead the Senate. Ultimately, he urged the Igbo community to focus on collaborative, mainstream politics to secure a more prosperous future for the next generation.
