In an effort to revitalize dormant industries and establish Yobe as a leading center for agro-industrial production, the state government has officially transferred four major facilities to the Nigeria Food Corporation (NFC). This move is a central component of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s Agro-Food Industrial Revolution initiative, which seeks to boost local output, generate employment, and increase revenue.
The formal transfer ceremony occurred in Damaturu, overseen by Dr. Mohammed Goje, Secretary to the State Government, and various commissioners. The assets included in this handover are the Yobe Flour and Feeds Mills Company Limited, the Wheat Flour Global Mills Company Limited, the Yobe State Fertilizer Blending Company in Gujba, and the Damaturu Modern Abattoir. While the Nguru Oil Mills and the designated NFC headquarters were excluded for the moment due to pending shareholder interest reconciliation, they remain under future consideration.
Dr. Goje emphasized that shifting these assets to the NFC provides a structured framework for rehabilitation and long-term operation. The goal is to move the state away from simple raw agricultural production and toward a more competitive, value-added industrial economy. Signing the documents were the NFC Board Chairman, Dr. Sa’id Alkali Kori, and Managing Director Dr. Babagana Mohammed Adam, along with various state officials.
Dr. Kori praised the initiative, noting that the NFC will now act as the primary vehicle for integrating agricultural production with local processing. This partnership is designed to attract private investment and ensure these industrial sites become vital contributors to the state’s economic future.
