Governor Lawal Provides Extensive Farm Aid to Zamfara Agricultural Sector

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has launched an agricultural support initiative, distributing 72,000 bags of fertiliser and other essential farming inputs to farmers across all 14 local government areas to boost food security.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has initiated a major agricultural support project by providing 72,000 bags of fertiliser and 200,000 litres of herbicides to local farmers. The effort, part of the Zamfara 2026 wet-season programme, was officially introduced at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the initiative involved the arrival of over 120 trucks of agricultural supplies. Along with fertilisers and herbicides, the state distributed equipment such as grass choppers, crop residue crushers, and feed milling machines. Furthermore, agricultural extension agents received 20 motorcycles and 20 mobile phones to facilitate their field work.

Governor Lawal emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of the state’s economy. He stated that the project is intended to bolster food security and provide sustainable income sources for the population. By transitioning from traditional subsistence farming to a technology-based model, the administration hopes to reduce crime and poverty. The government is also working with federal and international entities to secure better resources, utilizing established programs like FADAMA III and NG-CARES.

This aid will reach all 147 political wards throughout the 14 Local Government Areas in the state. Every ward is set to receive 340 bags of fertiliser, while each local government area will be allocated 8,000 litres of herbicides.
