Michael Owen, the former Manchester United forward, has advised the club to prioritize keeping Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford, suggesting they should look past standard policy to secure his future. Owen views the Portuguese midfielder as the team’s primary asset and believes the club must do whatever is necessary to reach a new agreement.
Although Fernandes is signed until 2027, Owen argues that his impact is so profound that the club should prioritize his extension regardless of age-related wage or contract policies. Since arriving from Sporting CP in early 2020, Fernandes has been a standout performer, notably breaking the Premier League assist record with 21 in a single campaign.
Speaking on the matter, Owen emphasized that the midfielder is simply too important to lose, stating that the club should bend its rules to ensure he stays. He noted that he could not conceive of the team starting a season without Fernandes, given his role in the squad’s progress. Since joining, Fernandes has appeared in 327 matches, contributing 107 goals and 108 assists, solidifying his status as the club’s most impactful acquisition since the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
