Craig Bellamy, the manager of the Wales national football team, has alienated many supporters and officials following the collapse of his potential appointment at Burnley, according to former teammate Iwan Roberts. The 46-year-old coach, who was previously an assistant under Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor, held discussions with the Lancashire club that ultimately failed to materialize.
Roberts noted that the situation has placed the Football Association of Wales (FAW) in a difficult position. While Bellamy, who has served as the Wales boss since 2024, is under contract until 2028, his interest in the Burnley vacancy suggests his commitment to the national team may be in question. Discussions reportedly stalled not due to compensation fees, but over disagreements regarding his coaching staff.
Former striker Malcolm Allen expressed relief that Bellamy will remain with the national squad, though he acknowledged that the manager faces an uncomfortable path forward. Allen stated that the only way for Bellamy to regain the trust of frustrated fans is by delivering consistent results on the pitch, particularly given the financial constraints currently facing the FAW.
