Kenny Okolugbo, a political analyst and former aide to the Senate President, recently argued that Governor Ademola Adeleke made a tactical error by leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Accord Party. Adeleke had originally exited the PDP due to internal leadership conflicts, legal disputes, and factional instability, hoping the Accord Party would provide a more secure path for his re-election. However, Okolugbo suggested that the move has hindered the governor, noting that voters remain loyal to the PDP brand on the ballot.
During an appearance on Arise TV, Okolugbo stated that he would have preferred Adeleke to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for a better strategic position against the All Progressives Congress (APC). Furthermore, Okolugbo addressed the controversy surrounding the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and alleged suspicious fund withdrawals from Osun State accounts. He argued that the state government should have proactively addressed the EFCC’s claims rather than remaining passive, especially since the governor appeared to have prior knowledge of impending account restrictions.
With the Osun governorship election set for August 15, 2026, the contest is expected to be a primary struggle between the Accord Party, the APC, and the ADC.
