Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), has issued a strong warning to Nigerian youth to refrain from acting as political mercenaries during the 2027 general election cycle. Speaking at the 15th Anglican Chancellors, Registrars and Legal Officers Conference in Abuja, he cautioned that politicians often exploit young people for activities they would never expect their own children to perform.
Ndukuba advocated for active Christian participation in the political sphere, urging believers to join political parties and engage in the selection of representatives. He argued that national progress requires internal democracy within parties and a move away from the influence of money and political godfathers. He emphasized that campaigns should center on policy issues rather than physical confrontation.
Furthermore, the Primate called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and security forces to protect the sanctity of the electoral process. He also highlighted the establishment of the Global Anglican Communion (GAC) following the GAFCON G26 conference, noting that the movement now aligns itself with the Jerusalem Declaration rather than the historical authority of the See of Canterbury.
During the same event, Church of Nigeria Registrar Mrs. Kehinde Ajoni addressed legal officers, stressing the necessity of transparency. She reminded legal personnel that they must serve as the moral compass of the church, prioritizing ethical conduct and accountability over deceptive legal maneuvers.
