Jannik Sinner, currently ranked as the world’s top tennis player, has pulled out of the upcoming Cincinnati Open. The 24-year-old Italian is dealing with a knee issue that has sidelined him since his victory at the Wimbledon final against Alexander Zverev last month.
Sinner expressed his regret over the decision, noting that he consulted with his medical team but ultimately realized he was not in peak condition to participate. He is now directing his recovery efforts toward the US Open, which is scheduled to run from August 30 to September 13 in New York.
While Sinner will miss the tournament, other top players including Zverev and Novak Djokovic are expected to compete. Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion who beat Sinner in last year’s final before the Italian retired due to illness, will also be absent from the event. Alcaraz has been out of commission since April due to a wrist injury.
