Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, linking the nation’s deteriorating security environment to government waste and budget padding. Citing reports that 5,091 individuals were killed in violent acts over a three-month period, Atiku labeled the figure a clear sign of the current government’s failure to ensure public safety.
A statement issued in Abuja by Atiku’s aide, Phrank Shaibu, emphasized that these numbers reflect a devastating human toll caused by an administration that fails to align its actions with the necessary urgency for national protection. The statement argued that funds diverted to frivolous projects or mismanaged within the budget directly limit the effectiveness of security forces who lack the resources needed to combat threats efficiently.
While acknowledging the recent salary increase for military personnel, Atiku maintained that better pay is insufficient if soldiers lack proper equipment, welfare, and operational support. He argued that morale remains tied to the government’s commitment to providing adequate tools and backing for frontline troops. Ultimately, Atiku asserted that the state has failed its primary constitutional obligation to protect its citizens and called for an end to financial waste and improved execution of security-focused budget appropriations.
