Sunrisers Leeds secured a crucial six-wicket victory against Welsh Fire at Headingley, maintaining their pursuit of a spot in the knockout stages of The Hundred. The result effectively ended Welsh Fire’s tournament run. Chasing a target of 122, Australian opener Phoebe Litchfield played a dominant role, scoring 55 runs from just 25 deliveries.
Litchfield, who leads the tournament with 262 runs, utilized an array of shots to dismantle the Fire bowling attack. Her innings included six boundaries and three sixes. Although she was eventually dismissed by Georgia Wareham, the foundation she laid allowed Annabel Sutherland, Dani Gibson, and Jess Jonassen to guide the team to victory with 26 balls to spare. Litchfield, recognized as player of the match, credited her success to a simple approach and the effective work of her teammates.
Earlier, the Sunrisers bowlers limited Welsh Fire to 121-8. Deepti Sharma was the standout performer with figures of 3-13, while Hannah Baker chipped in with 2-15. Freya Kemp provided the only significant resistance for the visitors, scoring an unbeaten 72 from 45 balls. Kemp benefited from three dropped catches by the Sunrisers, as she remained the only batter alongside Georgia Voll to reach double figures.
The Sunrisers now sit fourth in the standings with 16 points. They face a decisive match against the third-placed Manchester Super Giants on Tuesday at Old Trafford, where the winner will advance to the Eliminator.
