The Sunrisers Leeds secured a dominant nine-wicket victory over the Birmingham Phoenix at Edgbaston, effectively ending the playoff hopes for the Phoenix, MI London, and London Spirit. Chasing a target of 108, the Sunrisers reached the goal with 31 balls remaining thanks to an explosive performance from Phoebe Litchfield, who remained unbeaten on 71 off just 33 deliveries.
Litchfield reached her fastest half-century in the tournament in only 20 balls, peppering the field with 13 boundaries and one maximum. Although Bryony Smith was removed by Fatima Sana for 12, Litchfield and Lauren Winfield-Hill, who scored 26, anchored the chase with an unbroken 87-run stand.
Earlier, the Phoenix struggled to build momentum after being put in to bat. Despite solid contributions from Emma Lamb with 47 and Ellyse Perry with 31, the side collapsed late in their innings. Deepti Sharma stood out for the Sunrisers with figures of 3-11, while Kate Cross added 2-14. The Phoenix lost their final four wickets for only five runs, finishing their allotted balls at 107-9.
The win elevates the Sunrisers to fourth place in the standings, trailing the Manchester Super Giants by two points with two matches remaining. Conversely, the Birmingham Phoenix and the two London franchises are now relegated to playing for pride for the remainder of the season.
