Residents of Lekki Phase 1 are voicing strong dissatisfaction over a two-week power outage caused by a transformer failure. Many are criticizing the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) for what they call a lack of communication and poor service regarding the ongoing blackout.
In interviews, locals reported that the lack of electricity has led to financial strain, with families losing perishable groceries and others paying high costs for fuel to run private generators. Mr. Taiwo Bolodeoku stated that the community has received no formal updates or apologies since the transformer malfunctioned. Similarly, Mrs. Margaret Sogbesan expressed frustration over broken promises, while Mr. David Nezaya noted that the situation is especially difficult for those working from home.
Mr. Adeyemi Razaq, a representative for EKEDC, explained that the company is planning repairs. He noted that the necessary materials were approved by the head office but have yet to be delivered to the site. Razaq expressed hope that the repairs could be completed by the middle of the following week.
