The Osun State Police Command has taken Mayowa Anjorin, the Commissioner for Environment, and Odeyemi Abimbola into custody following a shooting incident in Ilesa. The event took place during a political procession when individuals reportedly exited a vehicle and fired shots into the crowd. Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi noted that some suspects were disguised in Amotekun security uniforms.
Three individuals—Tobi Ilesanmi, Wasiu Alanide, and Aderemi Adedeji—were wounded and are currently receiving medical attention. Following a public pursuit, authorities tracked a Lexus vehicle containing a pump-action firearm, leading to the arrests. The command is also examining the potential involvement of Wale Akerele but maintains that the investigation is ongoing and unbiased.
The Accord party has strongly criticized these developments, claiming that over 60 of its members have faced politically motivated detentions across the state, particularly in Ijesaland. Pelumi Olajengbesi, speaking for the Imole Campaign Council, denounced the commissioner’s arrest as an irregular exercise of power and urged Inspector-General of Police Kayode Olatunji Disu to intervene. Furthermore, Accord state chairman Pastor Victor Akande alleged that external operatives are attempting to interfere with INEC electronic systems from a hotel in Osogbo, prompting calls for heightened cybersecurity.
