The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of Ojiogu Elumah Martin, a man known as “Acid” who was suspected of leading a gang responsible for killing Eze Paulinus Ekwueme. The traditional ruler of Ochia in the Ohaji/Egbema area of Imo State was murdered earlier this year. Force spokesperson Ani Iniedu stated that Martin died following a firefight with law enforcement officers.
Special units from the Force Intelligence Department conducted operations between August 2 and 6, 2026, aimed at dismantling the criminal group. On August 6, officers discovered Martin’s hideout in Ohaji/Egbema. He opened fire on the police, resulting in a confrontation that left him mortally wounded. Authorities recovered an AK-47, three magazines, and 56 rounds of ammunition from the site.
The deceased was the primary suspect in the April 10, 2026, ambush on Asa/Awara Road, where the monarch and five others lost their lives. Police have previously arrested four individuals and reported two other deaths involving members of the same syndicate. Law enforcement officials continue to search for remaining fugitives and are dedicated to ensuring the full prosecution of everyone involved in this crime.
