The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of ten individuals suspected of cult-related activities in Esit Eket. DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, announced the arrests in a statement released in Uyo this Saturday.
The first group of detainees, identified as Benjamin James, Moses Asuquo, Isaac Jimmy, Akaniyene Ekpo, and Aniekan Samuel, were apprehended following intelligence-led operations. Authorities recovered a variety of items from these suspects, including a locally manufactured pistol, charms, a machete, a Point-of-Sale terminal, cannabis seeds, and 400,000 naira. These items are currently being analyzed as part of an ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident on July 31, 2026, police responded to reports of gunfire at a local guest house. Five additional suspects—Destiny Moses, Boniface Clement, Raphael Offiong, Victor Obot, and Sunday Victor—were detained after they were discovered meeting unlawfully. Although some participants escaped, officers seized a damaged Mercedes-Benz C300, a jack knife, and various items associated with the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as De Norsemen Klan. Police are continuing their efforts to locate the remaining individuals who fled the scene.
