The Department of State Services (DSS) took three additional individuals into custody on Friday evening regarding the abduction of Professor Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor, the Dean of Agriculture at Nasarawa State University. The professor had been rescued by security forces just two days after being taken by armed men on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in the Mile Uku border region.
Initial operations had already led to the capture of two other suspects, one of whom was a woman. The three latest arrests took place at a brothel situated on the Mararaban Akunza-Lafia-Makurdi highway. Those identified are 25-year-old Yakubu Abubakar, also known as Starboy or Black, 37-year-old Usman Abubakar Mairiga, and 27-year-old Sale Babauro Abubakar.
Official reports confirm that the individuals are currently detained at the state DSS headquarters. Authorities secured a warrant from a magistrate’s court to facilitate further questioning and investigation into the kidnapping incident.
