Niger Police Apprehend 20-Year-Old for Midnight Kidnap Attempt

Niger State police have detained 20-year-old Tukur Bello for allegedly breaking into a home in Mokwa to kidnap two women, injuring one during the encounter.

Authorities in Niger State have taken 20-year-old Tukur Bello into custody following a violent incident at a home in Takuma Fulani Camp, Mokwa. Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun stated that the suspect entered the premises armed with a cutlass during the early hours of July 25, 2026, with the intention of abducting two sleeping women.

When the victims began to scream for help, Bello reportedly struck one of them with his weapon, causing serious hand injuries. Local residents and vigilante members heard the commotion, rushed to the scene, and successfully subdued the attacker before handing him over to the police.

Officers recovered the weapon from the suspect, who is a resident of the same camp. While the investigation started at the Mokwa Divisional Police Headquarters, it has since been shifted to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for a thorough review. Bello is currently being held for questioning and will face formal charges soon. Officials are encouraging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
