The Mexican Football Federation has defied its regional governing body, Concacaf, by publicly declaring support for embattled Fifa president Gianni Infantino. While Concacaf has demanded a thorough review of Infantino’s leadership following his decision to drop plans for selling World Cup stakes to private investors, Mexico remains a steadfast supporter. As a co-host of the 2026 World Cup, Mexico stated its commitment to Infantino’s focus on institutional stability and football development.
This move aligns Mexico with the South American governing body Conmebol, which has also insisted that any leadership changes must occur through a formal vote involving all 211 member associations. In contrast, European governing body Uefa has openly declared a loss of confidence in the president. Despite Infantino’s efforts to address the controversy, tensions remain high as some national associations, including the English FA, continue to distance themselves from his leadership.
