Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has declared that his administration will not seek dialogue or compromise with criminal organizations in its ongoing campaign against local banditry. The governor announced this firm stance on Thursday while visiting Bungudu Local Government Area to pay respects to residents impacted by a recent violent incursion.
According to a statement from presidential aide Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor first met with the Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, to express his grief and offer support to the grieving community. Lawal emphasized that the state government is prioritizing the allocation of resources to stabilize the region and bolster existing security measures.
Addressing the public, Lawal asked for continued patience as authorities work through the difficult security environment. He pledged that the government remains dedicated to assisting injured individuals and the families of those taken captive, vowing to intensify operations to rescue the victims. The governor also offered prayers for the deceased and visited the household of the late Alhaji Bello Umar Bungudu.
In response, Emir Hassan Attahiru praised the governor’s proactive approach toward the regional crisis and stated he remains optimistic that the government will successfully curb the threat of banditry.
