Speaking to media outlets, Cooper emphasized the need for a comprehensive response strategy that manages the influx of vulnerable patients and facilitates faster hospital discharge processes. She also stressed the importance of stronger preventative measures to protect elderly and at-risk groups.
The UK recently matched its 1995 record for the number of days reaching temperatures of 30C or higher within a single year. Experts anticipate this record will be broken shortly as additional heatwaves are expected. Data from the UK Health Security Agency suggests a substantial increase in heat-related fatalities, with projections indicating that 2026 could witness the highest number of such deaths on record.
