Federal Fire Service Controller-General Adeyemi Samuel Olumode recently praised a Plateau State firefighter for his extraordinary bravery. The officer risked his own safety by climbing into a diesel tanker to pull a trapped individual to safety. While the rescue was successful, the firefighter required hospitalization for his injuries.
Olumode shared this account while opening two new Quarter Guards at the headquarters and the Wuse Zonal Fire Station in Abuja. These structures were funded through staff donations. During the event, the Controller-General emphasized that operational hurdles like water and fuel shortages have been effectively eliminated.
Reflecting on his leadership approach, Olumode noted that he prioritized staff welfare over personal celebrations upon taking office. By investing in basic necessities like mattresses instead of hosting a reception, he helped foster a highly motivated team. He has instructed his awards committee to document these types of staff-led initiatives for national recognition.
Assistant Controller-General Bolarinde Tajudeen Muhammed and Superintendent Murtala Muhammed also spoke at the event. They credited Olumode’s focus on personnel support, such as medical aid schemes and funeral assistance, with boosting morale and inspiring the voluntary construction project.
