NiMet Forecasts Nationwide Thunderstorms and Rain Over Three Days

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has released a three-day weather forecast warning of incoming thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds across the country starting Wednesday.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a forecast anticipating cloudy conditions and thunderstorms across Nigeria from Wednesday through Friday. In its latest outlook from Abuja, the agency detailed expectations for rain and storm activity across various regions.

On Wednesday, northern states including Sokoto, Kano, and Borno should prepare for morning thunderstorms and moderate rain. By afternoon, these conditions are expected to spread further into the North-East and North-Central regions, affecting areas such as the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Benue. The southern states will likely experience cloudy mornings followed by rain later in the day across the South-East and South-South.

Thursday’s outlook maintains a similar pattern, with thunderstorms anticipated across most northern states throughout the day. North-Central areas remain cloudy with a high probability of moderate rain. Southern regions, specifically the South-South and parts of the South-West like Ondo, are also scheduled for periodic rainfall.

By Friday, morning clouds in the north will likely transition into widespread thunderstorms and moderate rain by the afternoon. The North-Central and Southern states will experience similar weather, with rain forecast for regions including Enugu and Imo. NiMet has warned of strong winds preceding these storms, advising citizens to secure loose items and exercise caution while driving or staying near trees.

Airline operators are encouraged to obtain updated weather reports from the agency to assist with flight safety. Residents are urged to disconnect electrical devices during storms and monitor official updates via the agency’s website.
