Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, has officially stated that he does not have a preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential race. He issued this clarification to dismiss claims that he encouraged citizens to back President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
In a formal statement released by his media representative, Prince Bashir Adefaka, the monarch emphasized his role as a neutral figure to all Nigerians. He argued that it would be contradictory to his position to favor any specific politician, whether in public or private discussions.
Addressing the misinformation, the statement clarified that the Sultan never issued a call for support regarding President Tinubu’s reelection. The monarch dismissed these rumors as malicious, suggesting they were fabricated by individuals aiming to involve him in partisan activities for their own benefit.
The Sultan maintains that his office remains open to every citizen, irrespective of their political leanings. He affirmed his commitment to treating all Nigerians equally and avoiding political bias.
