Manchester United is moving toward naming former Hearts manager Eva Olid as the new head of their women’s side. The 40-year-old Spaniard is expected to connect with the Manchester United players on Wednesday as the club wraps up her hiring process. This transition follows the departure of Marc Skinner, who left the organization on Monday via mutual agreement, only one month prior to the Women’s Super League campaign.
Olid departed from Hearts during the recent summer after a tenure that included leading the club to their inaugural Scottish Women’s Premier League title. Since arriving in 2021, she had signed a contract extension until 2026, though she and the club reached a mutual decision to part ways in April. Beyond her league success, she steered the Edinburgh team to their first domestic final appearance, although they were eventually defeated by Rangers in the 2024 Scottish Cup.
Marc Skinner ended his five-year stint at Manchester United after securing the club’s first major piece of silverware during the 2024 Women’s FA Cup final. He also directed the team to their maiden Women’s Champions League group stage appearance. However, amid a period of limited summer transfer activity and concerns regarding squad investment, the club has shifted its strategy toward cultivating younger talent. United officials emphasized that a track record of developing players was a primary criterion for the new manager.
The club is set to open its WSL season away against the London City Lionesses on September 4.
