2027 Election Trouble: NDC Confronts Internal Conflict in Edo Over INEC Candidate Listing

A confusion over candidate listings on the INEC portal for the 2027 Edo South senatorial race has triggered an internal power struggle between two NDC aspirants.

A fresh dispute has emerged within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as two individuals are claiming the party’s senatorial nomination for the Edo South district ahead of the 2027 elections. This friction follows the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) uploading inconsistent candidate data to its official portal.

Reports indicate that the portal displays the photograph of Hon. Sunny Aguebor as the party’s nominee, while simultaneously listing the credentials of Mrs. Epelle-Asemota Beigiditte Osayuki. This contradiction has led to widespread uncertainty among party members and supporters regarding the true representative for the upcoming contest.

Hon. Aguebor firmly asserts that he is the legitimate candidate. He dismissed the conflicting information on the INEC website as either a technical mistake or intentional sabotage, claiming his status remains unchanged. Conversely, Mrs. Asemota declined to provide a detailed statement, noting that the issue is currently under review by both the party leadership and electoral officials.
