Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has verified the existence of a signed pact stipulating that presidential candidate Peter Obi will occupy the presidency for a solitary four-year period if they secure victory in 2027.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Kwankwaso addressed inquiries regarding Obi’s frequent assertions about serving only one term. He expressed full confidence in Obi’s integrity, stating that his personal interactions with him suggest he will remain true to his word.
Beyond verbal promises, the commitment is legally formalized. Kwankwaso noted that they have established a written agreement both for their political party and between themselves. He clarified that the core of this deal is the rotation of power, ensuring that leadership returns to Northern Nigeria once the 2027–2031 cycle concludes. Obi has frequently argued that a single term provides sufficient time to execute his proposed reforms and rectify the nation’s prevailing issues.
