Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, stated that President Bola Tinubu is the sole candidate who can secure a victory in Rivers State during the 2027 presidential election. During a media event in Abuja, Wike advised political opponents to exclude Rivers State from their winning projections unless those votes are aligned with Tinubu.
The former Rivers governor explained that he speaks from a position of political realism and intimate knowledge of the local electorate. He announced that a diverse coalition, featuring members from the PDP, APC, Labour Party, and the Action Alliance, has formed to support the President’s re-election efforts.
Wike clarified that this alliance focuses on the collective interest of Rivers State rather than partisan loyalty, aiming to ensure the region remains a priority for federal development. He dismissed suggestions that the group favors any specific party, emphasizing that his main goal is to secure benefits for his home state.
Reflecting on his lengthy political career, Wike asserted that he possesses a deep understanding of governance and strategy. He also referenced the challenges faced during the 2019 state elections, where he claimed massive federal security deployments were used to intimidate the public, a situation he credits the people of Rivers for helping him overcome.
