Soldiers from Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke conducted a targeted raid in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, resulting in the destruction of a base allegedly used by terrorists. The operation took place on August 1 around 11:00 am, focusing on areas including Atombagen, Chito, Tse Kighr, Tse Anaka, and Sabongida Leke.
While many of the suspected militants managed to escape prior to the military arrival, forces successfully apprehended five individuals at Sabongida Leke who are accused of involvement in local criminal activities. During the mission, troops razed the insurgent camp along with various buildings identified as logistics and operational hubs for these armed groups.
A military official stated that this mission was part of a broader campaign to restrict the movement of armed factions and dismantle their physical presence. Authorities confirmed that these clearance operations are a continuous effort to stabilize the region and prevent criminal networks from rebuilding their influence. The five detainees are currently held for further questioning as security patrols remain active throughout the sector.
