A recent drone attack carried out by the Sudanese army has resulted in the deaths of 35 individuals during a traditional court session in northern Darfur. The incident, which also left many others wounded, occurred on Sunday in Ghara al-Zawiya, a village currently under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Reports indicate that the court session was being conducted outdoors beneath a tree, attended by both local community leaders and RSF commanders. Among the fatalities were four tribal leaders and two members of the RSF. Witnesses described two drones hovering above the area before releasing multiple missiles.
The Emergency Lawyers Group has formally denounced the strike, labeling the targeting of civilian infrastructure a serious breach of international humanitarian law. The organization is now calling for a full investigation, highlighting a concerning trend of drones being used in civilian zones. The Sudanese army has yet to issue a statement regarding the allegations. This conflict, now entering its third year, continues to cause widespread displacement and loss of life across the region.
