A recent Israeli air raid in Gaza City resulted in the deaths of six family members, according to medical professionals on the ground. Footage from the scene in the al-Sabra district showed the residence engulfed in flames overnight.
A relative of Firas al-Masri confirmed to the BBC that the father died alongside his wife, Salsabeel, and their four children: Faryal, Salma, Amira, and Naim. The Israeli military stated that the operation was intended to strike a Hamas operative and that they are investigating the outcome.
The Hamas-led health ministry in Gaza reports that at least 1,168 Palestinians have been killed since a ceasefire began last October, compared to four Israeli soldiers lost in the same timeframe. The UN human rights office has voiced strong opposition to the rising number of military operations in the region.
UN spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan noted that between July 13 and July 20, at least 57 Palestinians were killed in strikes across various locations, including residential areas and displacement camps. He highlighted that these incidents suggest ongoing international humanitarian law violations. Since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023, the health ministry in Gaza estimates that over 73,290 people have been killed during Israel’s campaign.
